Mark Mitchell, former Duke player, transferring to Missouri: Adding Blue Devils forward is part of Tigers roster transformation

Mark Mitchell, former Duke player, transferring to Missouri: Adding Blue Devils forward is part of Tigers roster transformation

Former Duke forward Mark Mitchell has announced that he will be transferring to Missouri for his junior season. Standing at 6-foot-8, Mitchell is ranked No. 6 in the CBS Sports Transfer Rankings and is a significant addition to a Mizzou program looking to bounce back after a winless SEC campaign.

Mitchell, a former five-star prospect and McDonald’s All-American in the Class of 2022, played 67 games for the Blue Devils over two seasons. In the 2023-24 season, he averaged 11.6 points and six rebounds per game while shooting 54% from the field.

With Duke bringing in a top-ranked recruiting class, including standout prospect Cooper Flagg, who plays a similar position to Mitchell, the versatile forward decided to seek a change at Missouri. Under the leadership of third-year coach Dennis Gates, the Tigers are assembling a talented roster for the upcoming season, with Mitchell being a key addition due to his size and skills.

Mitchell’s transition from small forward to power forward last season resulted in a slight drop in his 3-point shooting percentage. However, his defensive versatility and strong finishing at the rim make him a valuable asset for Missouri.

The addition of Mitchell to the Tigers’ roster, along with other high-profile transfers and promising freshmen, signals a potential resurgence for the program after a disappointing season in 2023. If Mitchell can improve his outside shooting, he may attract attention from NBA scouts in the 2025 Draft. His defensive prowess, energy on the court, and ability to cover multiple positions make him a standout player to watch in the upcoming season.
