In Week 1, the Kansas City Chiefs emerged victorious with a 27-20 win over the Baltimore Ravens at home. Patrick Mahomes and the Chiefs will once again be playing at home in Week 2, this time against one of their AFC rivals, the Bengals. The Bengals faced a tough loss at home in Week 1 against the Patriots.
During the offseason, one of the offensive additions made by the Chiefs was WR Marquise “Hollywood” Brown. They signed the 27-year-old to a one-year deal. Unfortunately, Brown suffered a sternoclavicular injury in Kansas City’s first preseason game. Initially, it was believed that he would not require surgery and could return in a few weeks. However, Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network reported that Brown is now being placed on the injured reserve list and will need surgery, marking a challenging start to his 2024 season.

Prior to joining the Chiefs this season, Marquise Brown spent three years with the Ravens and two years with the Cardinals. Brown was the 25th overall pick by the Ravens in the 2019 draft out of Oklahoma. His most successful season in the league was his final year with the Ravens in 2021, where he recorded 91 receptions for 1,008 yards. Following that season, Brown was traded to the Cardinals and reunited with his former college QB Kyler Murray. After two seasons in Arizona, Brown became a free agent in the offseason.
He signed a one-year, $7 million deal with the Chiefs for the 2024 season. However, his SC joint injury and subsequent surgery will sideline him for at least the next four games, including matchups against the Bengals, Falcons, Chargers, and Saints. Despite this setback, the Chiefs have capable receivers in Rashee Rice and Xavier Worthy, both of whom had impressive performances in Week 1. Rice recorded seven receptions for 103 yards, while Worthy scored two touchdowns in his NFL debut. There is optimism that Marquise Brown will make a return later in the season for Kansas City.
