Marseille | Hurcacz and Dimitrov on course to meet in final

Poland’s Hubert Hurkacz, the top seed, seems to be in a hurry to retain his title as he swept past the Tomas Machac by defeating the Czech 6-3 6-4 in just 62-minutes to reach the semi-finals of the Open 13 Provence tournament in Marseilles, and ATP 250 level event.

The 26-year-old Hurkacz dominated with his serve and was solid off the baseline where he directed play to reach the last four.

“I was definitely serving well today and that helped me out,” Hurkacz, who will meet home favourite, Ugo Humbert for a place in the final after the Frenchman had dispatched Spain’s Alejandro Davidovich Fokina 6-1 6-4.

“I had a couple good return games, but apart from that, I didn’t have many chances… I feel my game has been strong and I’ve constantly been trying to improve things, so I feel confident on the court,” the Pole, currently world ranked at eight, added.

Humbert was also untroubled requiring 69-minutes to sweep past his Spanish opponent and did not face a break point all match as he reached the Marseille semis for the third time in his chase for his maiden title.

In the bottom half of the draw, Grigor Dimitrov and Karen Khachanov have reached the last four following straight set victories in their respective quarter final matches.

Khachanov, the Russian world No.18, overwhelmed China’s Zhang Zhizhen 6-4 6-1 in 61-minutes while the second-seeded Bulgarian, Dimitrov, dispatched Frenchman Arthur Rinderknech 6-3 7-6(6).

“Overall a solid way of playing, there’s not much else or no secret to what needs to be done out here,” Dimitrov said. “I was able to navigate through very nicely and calmly.”

The semi-finals will feature the top four seeds matching the final stages at Montpellier last week.
