Mason Greenwood debuts for Marseille in pre-season friendly against Toulon – Latest Man United News and Transfer Updates

Mason Greenwood makes Marseille debut in pre-season friendly against Toulon - Man United News And Transfer News

Manchester United finally put an end to the Mason Greenwood saga this summer, agreeing his transfer to French side Marseille.

The forward hadn’t played for United since being charged with attempted rape, engaging in controlling behaviour and assault in early 2022.

United agreed a £26.6m deal for the 22-year-old forward, who has signed a five-year deal in Ligue 1.

As reported by local media, Greenwood donned the Marseille colours for the first time yesterday (Wednesday), in a pre-season friendly fixture.

The Englishman played the first 45 minutes of the eventual 3-0 win against Toulon, played at a neutral venue.

Greenwood started in his familiar role of the right-hand of Roberto de Zerbi’s attack and looked lively throughout his time on the pitch.

However, there was no decisive act from the former United man, who registered a solitary shot on target amongst some tidy touches and dribbles.

Geoffrey Kondogbia gave Marseille the lead going into half time, with Amine Harit and Kassim Abdallah scoring in the second period.

Greenwood’s arrival in France was met with mixed reviews with the mayor of the city urging the club not to sign the winger.

However, the deal was concluded last week and the former United man will hope to rebuild his career after leaving Manchester for good.

Meanwhile, United will continue their pre-season as they travel to the USA for their summer Tour.

Arsenal are the first opponents of the tour, with the old rivals clashing in Los Angeles in the early hours of Sunday morning GMT.
