Matt Ryan Announces Decision Regarding His NFL Career

Matt Ryan #2 of the Indianapolis Colts looks on during pregame warm-ups prior to playing the Minnesota Vikings at U.S. Bank Stadium on December 17, 2022 in Minneapolis, Minnesota.

One of the top quarterbacks in the NFL in recent memory for over a decade was Matt Ryan. After taking the year off to do some television work, Ryan has officially made a decision on his NFL future. According to NFL insider Ari Meirov, Ryan has officially retired after playing 15 NFL seasons.

After being drafted with the third overall pick in the first round back in 2008 by the Atlanta Falcons, the former Boston College star would go on to spend 14 seasons with Atlanta. The four-time Pro-Bowler would bring the team back to relevancy. His 2016 was more than spectacular as he was named the MVP of the league en route to Atlanta’s second-ever Super Bowl appearance. In most respects, he is the greatest Falcon ever. The All-Pro is the franchise record-holder in passing yards, passing touchdowns, passer rating, completions, and many other categories. He also holds the NFL record for most consecutive 200-yard passing games (64).

His connection with receiver Julio Jones was one of the best in NFL history too. After his 14 seasons in Atlanta were done, he would be traded to the Indianapolis Colts for a third-round pick. In his lone season there, he threw just 14 touchdowns, 13 interceptions, and he battled a few injuries. He was released after the 2022 season, which is when he became an analyst for CBS. It will be up for debate whether or not he belongs in Canton, Ohio. What is not up for debate his arm strength, passing productivity, and the impact he made on the Falcons organization.
