Matthew Anderson claims victory at the PGA TOUR Americas event in Brazil

Matthew Anderson

Matthew Anderson emerged victorious at the 69th ECP Brazil Open, held at the Rio Olympic Golf Course in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. With his third consecutive round under 70, Anderson secured his first professional win by making back-to-back birdies on the final two holes to claim the title.

This win follows Anderson’s recent T21 and T3 finishes at the Bupa Championship at Tulum and the Totalplay Championship at Atlas Country Club, respectively. His impressive performance has propelled him to the No. 1 spot in the Fortinet Cup season-long ranking after three events. As the first Canadian to win on PGA TOUR Americas, Anderson has shown consistent success since turning pro last summer, with six top-25 finishes to his name.

Hailing from Mississauga, Ontario, Anderson’s journey to professional success began with a victory at the 2019 Ontario Men’s Amateur Championship. He joined Golf Canada’s Team Canada program for the 2021-22 season and has been a valuable member ever since. Prior to entering the professional ranks, Anderson earned All-American honors in his final season at the University of San Francisco, followed by a strong showing at the 2023 NCAA Championships.

Earning status on the PGA TOUR Canada through a top finish at the Qualifying Tournament, Anderson secured his place in the inaugural PGA TOUR Americas season by finishing 50th in the 2023 Fortinet Cup standings. His next challenge will be at the Diners Club Peru Open in Lima, Peru, hosted at Los Inkas Golf Club from April 25-28.
