Maxi Oyedele’s departure from Manchester United reaps rewards as he earns call-up to Poland national team – Latest on Man United’s News and Transfers

Man United midfielder Maxi Oyedele "in talks" to join Legia Warsaw - Man United News And Transfer News

Former Manchester United starlet Maxi Oyedele has been called up to the Poland national team, after permanently parting ways with the English club in the summer.

In August, United confirmed that Oyedele had left to join Legia Warsaw in his home nation of Poland.

Oyedele played a part as United won the FA Youth Cup in 2022, coming on as a substitute in the final against Nottingham Forest at Old Trafford.

The midfielder was a regular for the Red Devils at the U18 and U23 levels.

His decision to seal a switch to Legia Warsaw was most likely motivated by a desire to attain regular playing time at senior level – something he could not get at Old Trafford under Erik ten Hag.

The 19-year-old was part of United’s pre-season squad, with his most notable contribution being a sensational assist to set up Joe Hugill’s strike during a win over Rangers at Murrayfield.

He was also part of the contingent that made its way to the United States for pre-season clashes vs. Arsenal, Liverpool and Real Betis.

Oyedele’s decision to make the move to Polish football as opposed to trying and making it at United initially appeared a bizarre one but it seems he was actually right and knew what was best for him.

This is because the Carrington academy graduate has been handed his first call-up for Poland, after just two appearances for Legia Warsaw.

The teenager made his Legia Warsaw debut on 20th September, when he came on as a substitute during a 1-0 defeat at the hands of Pogon Szczescin.

It appears he impressed a number of people and as a result, started the side’s next match vs. Górnik Zabrze. He excelled once again and in the process, convinced Michal Probierz to include him in his plans for the national team.

Reacting to his maiden call-up, Oyedele wrote on social media (via Sport.PL), “Proud of my first call-up to the first team.”
