Mbappé's Madrid Comeback Jeopardized by Ankle Injuryn

Kylian Mbappé to Miss Upcoming World Cup Qualifier Due to Ankle Injury

On October 11, 2025, it was announced that Kylian Mbappé, the captain of the France national football team, will not participate in the World Cup qualifier against Iceland scheduled for Monday due to a right ankle injury. This information was released by the French Football Federation (FFF) on Saturday.

Mbappé, who plays for Real Madrid, scored during France’s 3-0 win over Azerbaijan on Friday but was forced to leave the field limping in the 83rd minute. He had previously sustained the same ankle injury while competing against Villarreal just before the international break.

The FFF confirmed that Mbappé would not travel to Reykjavik and would instead return to Madrid for treatment. In an official statement, they noted, “Upon the French delegation’s return to Clairefontaine, the French team captain spoke with Didier Deschamps.” The national coach has acknowledged his absence, affirming that Mbappé has been released to his club without a replacement being called up.

Currently, France, who was the runner-up in the last World Cup, is leading in the qualification series for the 2026 World Cup, having won all three matches in Group D so far.
