Weston McKennie delivers Champions League goal in first start of Juventus season

Weston McKennie made his first start of the season for Juventus a memorable one as he scored in their 3-1 victory over PSV in the UEFA Champions League opener.

The U.S. men’s national team midfielder played 75 minutes and helped his team secure three points in the new league phase format under Thiago Motta.

Kenan Yildiz opened the scoring for Juventus in the 21st minute before McKennie doubled the lead six minutes later with his fifth Champions League goal of his career.

Nicolas Gonzalez added a third goal for Juventus in the 52nd minute with a brilliant finish and was named Man of the Match.

McKennie, who had an 88% passing completion rate, one duel won, and one tackle completed, was subbed off before the final whistle. Ismael Saibari scored a consolation goal for PSV.

Other USMNT players in the match included Malik Tillman, Richie Ledezma, Tim Weah, and Ricardo Pepi, with varying minutes on the field.

Juventus will face Napoli next in Serie A, while PSV will travel to Fortuna Sittard in Eredivisie action.
