McTominay shines in Napoli debut under Conte – Latest updates on Man United’s News and Transfers

Scott McTominay reveals he has "the fire inside" to play for SSC Napoli - Man United News And Transfer News

Scott McTominay continues to impress in Italy, seamlessly transitioning to Napoli following his £25 million move from Manchester United.

The midfielder took just 25 seconds to score in Napoli’s recent 3-1 victory, highlighting his remarkable form under manager Antonio Conte.

McTominay, who left United this summer, has been pivotal in Napoli’s strong start to the Serie A season.

His latest goal came against Como, controlling a pass from Romelu Lukaku before finishing precisely into the bottom corner.

This goal adds to his tally, as he also found the net in a Coppa Italia fixture and contributed to his national team, Scotland.

According to reports, Antonio Conte has shifted away from his traditional 3-5-2 formation, opting instead for a 4-2-3-1.

McTominay has benefitted from this tactical change, being deployed as a No.10 rather than in his usual deep-lying role.

Conte has given him the license to push into the box more frequently, and the results are paying off.

Napoli’s win extended their lead at the top of the Serie A table, although Juventus still have a game in hand.

With the support of teammates such as Lukaku and David Neres, McTominay’s form is helping push Napoli towards a potential title charge, a far cry from his limited impact in Manchester.

For United fans, McTominay’s quick adaptation and rising influence at Napoli may provoke mixed feelings.

Watching one of their former players thrive abroad will undoubtedly spark conversations about what could have been had McTominay been given more opportunities at Old Trafford.

Many believed that the Scotsman was often played out of position during his time at Old Trafford, frequently deployed in a deeper midfield role that didn’t suit his strengths.

Lacking the technical skill set to excel in that position, McTominay struggled to make a consistent impact.

Under Erik ten Hag, however, there were glimpses of his effectiveness when given more freedom to push forward, hinting at the attacking potential he now fully realises at Napoli.

Nonetheless, his flourishing career in Italy suggests that his move has mutually benefited the player and the club.
