Medvedev Cracks Masters Milestone, And Seeks Another in Madrid

Daniil Medvedev may not be known for doing his best work on clay, but he’s done more than enough on his least favorite surface to join a very lofty club. On Tuesday in Madrid, the Russian battled past Alexander Bublik, 7-6(3), 6-4, to become the tenth active player to have reached at least the quarterfinals of all nine Masters 1000 events.

Medvedev joins Rafael Nadal, Novak Djokovic, Andy Murray Gael Monfils, Marin Cilic, Dominic Thiem, Stefanos Tsitisipas, Alexander Zverev and Grigor Dimitrov on the list.

Overall the 28-year-old Russian is into his 20th Masters 1000 quarterfinal. He improved to 6-0 against Bublik and will face either Rafael Nadal or Jiri Lehecka in the last eight at Madrid.
If he wins he will lock down another milestone. As of today, Medvedev is 99-43 at the Masters level (with six titles).

Medvedev improves to 22-5 overall in 2024, with two titles to his name. He is 32-27 lifetime on clay with one title.
