Medvedev Cracks Masters Milestone, And Seeks Another in Madrid

Daniil Medvedev? Call him Mr. Consistency. Or Mr. Top 10…

The Russian may not have won a major title this year, but he has hit a rankings milestone this week nevertheless, reaching 250 weeks inside the Top 10. Medvedev, who fell out of the Top 10 in January of last year for four weeks, recovered quickly and has since reeled off 87 more consecutive weeks inside the Top 10.

On Monday the fifth-ranked 28-year-old hit 250.

Of those 250 weeks, 16 were spent at No.1, with 228 of 250 spent inside the Top 5 (per tennis.com).

Machac Makes Top 25 Debut

Tomas Machac reached his maiden Masters semifinal last week in Shanghai before bowing out to eventual champion Jannik Sinner. For his efforts the 24-year-old jumps eight spots to a career-high ranking of 25. It has been a brilliant season for Machac, who won the Olympic mixed doubles gold medal with Katerina Siniakova. He also reached the second week at a major for the first time at this year’s US Open, and played his first ATP final on the clay in Geneva this spring.

Shang Hits Top 50

China’s Shang Juncheng becomes the first player born in 2005 or later to crack the Top 50 after cracking the Top 50. The 19-year-old, who won his maiden title in Chengdu last month, jumps to No.49 after a second-round performance at the Shanghai Masters.

Mensik, Goffin, Close in on Top 50

Another 19-year-old, Jakub Mensik, jumped 14 spots from No.65 to No.51 on Monday, after reaching his first Masters quarterfinal in Shanghai.

Mensik fell to Novak Djokovic in three sets.

Belgium’s David Goffin is also on the rise this week. The former World No.7 also reached the quarterfinal at Shanghai, thanks to victories over Lorenzo Musetti and Alexander Zverev. It was the Belgian’s first Masters quarterfinal since 2021, and his first on a hard court since 2019. Goffin jumps 13 spots to No.53 this week.
