Medvedev & Rublev Complete Inspired Comeback To Beat Ruud & Hurkacz At WTL

Medvedev & Rublev Complete Inspired Comeback To Beat Ruud & Hurkacz At WTL

The third match between the Eagles and the Hawks was an interesting one that didn’t quite go well for the Hawks as good friends Daniil Medvedev and Andrey Rublev bested Casper Ruud and Hubert Hurkacz.

Hurkacz is proving to be quite a problem for the Eagles at the 2023 World Tennis League, as the Polish player is playing really strong tennis on top of winning with Iga Swiatek earlier today.

This was a hugely important match for both teams as the Hawks led 10-8 before this match, and winning this one would have ensured them the win.

It all comes down to math because Hurkacz will play one of the singles matches later, and with his serve, it’s unlikely he’ll give up too many games on his serve, which could have ensured the win.

It’s due to the unique format, which basically counts each game in every match as a point. That allows for all kinds of calculations because you don’t really have to win all the matches to win an overall tie, though it helps to win as many as possible.

Each team has four players, and each tie has five matches: two singles and three doubles. Unfortunately, the Hawks couldn’t finish the match despite being up for a break.

They would have been up 16-12 if they had won, but they got broken, and the match went into a tie-break. In the tie-break, Rublev and Medvedev proved too strong for their opponents, winning it 7-1.

The score right now is 16-15 for the Hawks and we have two more matches coming up. First, it’s Sofia Kenin and Caroline Garcia and then it’s Daniil Medvedev and Hubert Hurkacz. There is a very good chance that the final match will decide it so stick around to find out what happens in this one.
