The Miami Dolphins continue to sputter after a loss on Sunday to the Indianapolis Colts dropped their record to 2-4 on the season.
Quarterback Tua Tagovailoa is still out after the third diagnosed concussion of his career, and overall, they’re a banged-up squad.
On Sunday, wide receiver Braxton Berrios injured his knee, and an MRI confirmed that he has a torn ACL, which led to him being placed on injured reserve on Monday.
Miami also activated cornerback Cam Smith from injured reserve on Monday.
In six games this year, Berrios hasn’t caught a single pass or even been targeted.
Last season, he had 27 receptions for 238 yards and a touchdown for the Dolphins.
Smith hasn’t played yet this year, and last year, as a rookie, he had a total of two tackles (one solo) after he was a second-round draft pick out of the University of South Carolina.
The best news for the Dolphins right now is Tagovailoa will return to practice this week, and although he caught advice from a number of medical experts, he will not retire.
Many felt he should retire once he suffered his most recent concussion in Week 2, but he is set to return relatively soon, and if he avoids injury, he could perhaps give the team a shot at making the playoffs.
Its remaining schedule is relatively manageable, so perhaps a clean enough bill of health would at least keep it in contention for a wild-card playoff spot as the calendar turns over to 2025.
