The 2024 Miami Open quarter-final lineup is complete, and the top four seeds are still in the mix. In Tuesday’s fourth-round action, Alcaraz, Sinner, Medvedev, and Zverev won straight-set victories.
Medvedev was first to book his spot, overcoming a slow start to bagel Koepfer in the second; Jannik Sinner wasn’t far behind, also recovering from a tricky first set to chalk up his 19th match win of the season.
Carlos Alcaraz then put in the cleanest performance of the day, with his pacey groundstrokes and variety proving far too much for Musetti to handle.
Other victors were Zverev, who outclassed Khachanov; Dimitrov, who made his first-ever Miami last-eight appearance; Marozsan, who’s on the brink of entering the top 30; and Machac, who was too composed for Arnaldi.

Medvedev Knocks Off Koepfer
Daniil Medvedev is trying to defend a tour-level title for the first time in Miami, and he is one step closer thanks to a solid 7-6(5), 6-0 victory over Dominik Koepfer.
The Russian overcame a slow-ish start against the tricky German lefty, recovering from 0-4 down in the tiebreak to romp home in 1 hour and 29 minutes.
I still think Meddy needs to hone his serve, but he only faced one break point in the match (albeit losing it), and his return game is creating plenty of opportunities. But against the likes of Alcaraz? Based on their current levels, it’s an uphill battle.
Sometimes it happens when you lose the first set the way he lost it. He played very good, probably was closer to winning it because of the 4/0 in the tie-break and when you lose such a set, especially when the points were tough, it brings your energy down. I knew I had to use that at the beginning of the second set. That’s why it was the most important and I managed to do it. Sometimes that happens, but the level was high today. Sinner Overcomes O’Connell
Jannik Sinner is into his fourth Miami Open quarter-final with a tricky 6-4, 6-3 win over Christopher O’Connell.
The Aussie proved a capable foil in the opening exchanges, using his variety to cause Sinner problems as he forged into a 3-1 lead and held another break point in game six, only for Sinner to reel off four straight games to take the set 6-4.
From there, Sinner was able to take command, and an early break in the second allowed him to play freely as O’Connell’s belief had been zapped, and he made some questionable shot choices after having the Italian on the ropes.
Today was much different than Sunday’s match. Much more windy, so I had to adjust a little bit,” Sinner said. “I had some chances even before I broke him, so I knew I was doing the right things. Alcaraz Too Strong for Musetti
Carlos Alcaraz has looked like the strongest player in Miami so far and has continued that trend with a commanding 6-3, 6-3 win over Lorenzo Musetti.
The Italian had picked up his best win of the year against Ben Shelton in the third round, but in truth, he was unable to trouble Alcaraz, who dominated in all areas; the top seed fired 23 winners, won 22 of 26 at the net and won 63% of second serve return points to ensure the scoreboard was firmly in his favour.
I know that his style is playing from the back with spin. I tried to not let him feel comfortable on the court. I tried to play my game, play aggressively with my shots, go to the net, drop shots, and use my style. I think I did pretty well, and I’m really happy with my performance. - Jarry Rallies Past Ruud: A second career Masters 1000 quarter-final for Jarry, who’s become someone you don’t want to see in your draw recently, and he proved too much for Ruud in windy conditions. 7-6(3), 6-3.
- Machac Too Strong for Arnaldi: The Czech backed up his win against Murray with a composed performance against Arnaldi 6-3 6-3.
- Dimitrov Edges Hurkacz: It was a tight three-setter that Dimitrov edged in a tiebreak, aided by Hurkacz touching the net in a crucial point that the Umpire correctly spotted. 3-6, 6-3, 7-6(3). Dimitrov has now made at least the quarter-finals at every Masters 1000 tournament.
- Zverev Zaps Khachanov: Sascha displayed aggressiveness and was not facing a break point. He won 83% of his second serve to progress 6-1, 6-4.
- Marozsan Derails de Minaur: The Hungarian improved to 4-1 vs top 10 players as he upset Alex de Minaur 6-4, 1-6, 6-1 in the night match on Grandstand Court. De Minaur missed out on being the first player to notch 20 wins this season. Sinner now has 19.
