For months, there has been a good deal of anxiety surrounding the Dallas Cowboys, not just because of the contract situations of Dak Prescott and CeeDee Lamb that lingered deep into the summer, but also because of the roster holes they didn’t address in the offseason.
After a solid Week 1 win against the Cleveland Browns, the Cowboys got embarrassed by the New Orleans Saints in Week 2, and now that anxiety has perked up again.
Dallas will host the struggling Baltimore Ravens, and Cowboys legend Michael Irvin said he’s concerned about his former team heading into the Week 3 matchup.
“I’ve never, ever worried about that old ‘America’s Team’ moniker, but now I am,” Irvin said on “Speak.”
Dallas’ running game is very weak, and their defense, which looked dominant at times last season, caved in during Week 2.
Prescott completed 27 of 39 passes for 293 yards against the Saints, but he also had two interceptions, and one has to wonder if he will ever play well in games that have big implications.
Dallas lost several key people this offseason, including running back Tony Pollard, defensive end Dorance Armstrong Jr. and defensive coordinator Dan Quinn.
It has gotten to the point where few seem to care what the Cowboys accomplish during the regular season, given their consistent early-round losses in the playoffs.
Last year, the Cowboys finished first in the NFC East but came apart at the seams in the wild-card round of the playoffs against the Green Bay Packers.
