It’s been almost a decade since Jim Harbaugh was the head coach of the San Francisco 49ers, his one and only head-coaching job in the NFL.

Since then, Harbaugh has been down at the college level as the head coach of Michigan’s football program.

Michigan has been successful with the former NFL quarterback as their head coach (especially recently), and it’s led to some speculating whether he will return to the pros for another head-coaching opportunity in 2024.

Well, it seems like Michigan is working on doing whatever they can to keep Harbaugh as their head coach, as Sports Illustrated’s Richard Johnson recently shared on Twitter that the school is reportedly working on a five-year extension for the head coach that will pay him $11 million per season.

Johnson also shared that before Michigan backs up the Brinks truck for Harbaugh, the school would like “a commitment in writing” from the head coach that he won’t pursue any of the NFL head coach openings during the upcoming offseason.

Harbaugh has already been paid very handsomely during his tenure with Michigan, so more money might not be enough to keep him away from the NFL.

Plus, Michigan was just involved in an embarrassing sign-stealing scandal this year, so Harbaugh might want to get out sooner rather than later to avoid any further punishment from the NCAA if additional information related to the scandal is discovered in the future.

It will certainly be interesting to see what Harbaugh chooses to do because he should have plenty of interest if he chooses to pursue a return to coaching in the NFL in 2024.
