Mike Francesa Criticizes Nathaniel Hackett’s Performance as ‘Inept’

Mike Francesa Says Nathaniel Hackett Is 'Inept'

There’s no doubt that the New York Jets are a talented football team on both sides of the ball, but this team hasn’t been able to put it together, even with superstar quarterback Aaron Rodgers under center, which has led to a 2-3 record at this point in the 2024 NFL regular season.

Things have gotten off to such a poor start for the Jets that the team’s brass and ownership decided it was time to fire head coach Robert Saleh after a Week 5 loss to the Minnesota Vikings this past weekend in London, England.

With Saleh no longer in the picture in New York, the Jets have turned to defensive coordinator Jeff Ulbrich to be the interim head coach for presumably the rest of the 2024 campaign.

This was a telling move by the team, as they could’ve turned to Rodgers’ close friend, offensive coordinator Nathaniel Hackett, a former head coach, to be the leader on the sideline moving forward, but they went in a different direction.

Mike Francesa believes that Hackett is not the answer for the Jets as offensive coordinator because he only got the job due to his relationship with Rodgers via The Dan Patrick Show.

The pressure is on in New York with the Jets needing to show results in the aftermath of Saleh’s firing, or this team could be in for an overhaul during the NFL offseason, with or without Rodgers under center for the 2025 NFL season.

It’ll be interesting to see if the Jets can turn around their season as they’ll be put under the microscope even more so after this surprising move this early in the regular season.
