Mike Macdonald Shares Insights on the Seahawks’ Quarterback Dilemma

The Seattle Seahawks are slated to look a lot different in 2024 than they did in 2023.

Mike Macdonald has taken over as head coach, relieving the long-time coach Pete Carroll of his duties with the organization.

Carroll is a legendary figure in the organization, and it will be difficult for Macdonald to fill his shoes moving forward.

While it might be nerve-wracking for Macdonald to take the reins in 2024, he appears ready for whatever comes his way.

One of the biggest questions for Macdonald this offseason has been regarding the team’s starting quarterback.

Conventional wisdom might dictate that Geno Smith, the incumbent starter, will automatically get the starting gig.

However, after the rumors of the Seahawks taking a rookie quarterback in this year’s draft, anything could be on the table.

Macdonald seemed cool, calm, and collected when he was recently asked about this.

When speaking with Tom Pelissero of the NFL Network about the team’s quarterback situation, Macdonald said, “We got a lot of confidence in those guys.”

“Those guys” is a statement that likely refers to Smith and Sam Howell, who are the two most likely quarterbacks to battle it out for the Seahawks starting gig.

Howell showed some promise with the Washington Commanders last season, but when it became clear they were going to take Jayden Daniels in this year’s draft, there wasn’t room for him on the team.

He could have a great opportunity to succeed with the Seahawks, especially considering that their starting quarterback isn’t set in stone.
