Miles Robinson joins FC Cincinnati as free agent signing

Miles Robinson entered the MLS offseason as the top free agent available and despite interest from Europe, the veteran defender will be staying in the Eastern Conference.

FC Cincinnati has signed Robinson through the 2024 season, with a club option for 2025, the club announced. The 26-year-old spent the last seven MLS seasons with Atlanta United after being drafted No. 2 overall in the 2017 MLS Draft.

He made 123 MLS regular season appearances with the Five Stripes, scoring three goals and adding two assists. Robinson helped Atlanta United lift MLS Cup in 2018 and the U.S. Open Cup in 2019, while also earning two MLS Best XI honors (2019, 2021).

“We are thrilled that Miles chose to continue his career in Cincinnati,” said FC Cincinnati General Manager Chris Albright. “He is an elite defender with a dynamic skillset who already has an incredible amount of MLS and international experience. His personality and character are an immediate addition to our locker room and we’d like to welcome him to FC Cincinnati.”

After debuting for the U.S. men’s national team in 2019, Robinson has earned 27 caps to date. He scored the winning goal for the USMNT in the 2021 CONCACAF Gold Cup Final against Mexico.

Robinson was also nominated for the 2021 U.S. Soccer Male Player of the Year.

“I’m very excited to be signing for FC Cincinnati,” said Robinson. “This is an amazing organization from top to bottom, and I will do everything in my power to win more trophies for the passionate fans and outstanding people of this city. I’m ecstatic to play my first home game at TQL stadium.”

Robinson joins an FC Cincy squad that is preparing for its first-ever involvement in a CONCACAF competition. The reigning Supporters’ Shield winners qualified for the revamped CONCACAF Champions Cup, which begins this February.
