The Los Angeles Rams couldn’t bring the best out of Cam Akers.

Despite his talent, it always felt like he left something to be desired, and some undisclosed off-field issues between him and the organization eventually led to his departure.

He was expected to break out for the Minnesota Vikings but a season-ending Achilles injury put an end to those hopes.

Nonetheless, the Vikings aren’t ready to give up on the 25-year-old.

According to insider Charley Walters, the team could re-sign him if he can pass a physical (via The Purple Persuasion).

The Vikings got significantly better at running back with Aaron Jones in the building, but they still need someone to back him up, especially given his recent history of injuries, thus making Akers a feasible candidate.

Akers ran for just 167 yards last season, most of them in Minnesota.

He showed signs of promise in the five games he played with the organization before suffering that Achilles injury, and while he’s not as explosive as Ty Chandler, he seems to be the more reliable choice as an RB2.

Akers still has plenty to prove in this league and could play his way into a bigger role somewhere else if he balls out in Minnesota. The Vikings could get him at a more than decent price.

With Sam Darnold and J.J. McCarthy there to run the offense for Kevin O’Connell, it’ll be key to establish the running game as well, which is why this move could make perfect sense for them.
