Baseball loves its unwritten rules and is likely the most superstitious sport, and one of those rules is that when a no-hitter is taking place, you don’t speak of it under any circumstances.
An MLB Network analyst broke this cardinal rule last night and delivered an all-time jinx on one of the league’s brightest young pitchers.
Last night, Greg Amsinger of MLB Network declared a “no-hitter alert” while Los Angeles Dodgers rookie Yoshinobu Yamamoto was on the mound, except he did it before the game even started, and Yamamoto proceeded to serve up a home run to Jazz Chisholm on the first pitch.

This might be on the Mount Rushmore of jinxes, as even if it was done as a joke, losing the no-no immediately on the first pitch is hilarious.
This would have been an unacceptable jinx in the 8th or 9th inning, but to break out the first pregame no-hitter alert and have it crash and burn in historic fashion like this is truly special.
Luckily for Yamamoto, he was able to settle in and deliver another stellar performance, delivering eight innings of 2-run ball with five strikeouts and no walks to move to 4-1 on the season with a 2.79 ERA.
LA is on a tear and has won six in a row, and Yamamoto has been dominant since surrendering five runs in just one inning of work in his first career start.
He has given up just eight earned runs in six starts since.
Hopefully, Yamamoto can keep it rolling and avoid any more pre-game jinxes.
