The Chicago Fire have added attacking depth heading into 2024.
Tom Barlow was acquired in a trade with the New York Red Bulls, both clubs announced Monday. In exchange for Barlow, the Fire will send New York $250,000 in General Allocation Money (GAM) split evenly across the next two seasons.
The Red Bulls could also receive an additional $150,000 in performance-based GAM as well.
“We are pleased to welcome Tom to Chicago as we continue to build our roster for the 2024 season,” Chicago sporting director Georg Heitz said in a release. “After identifying our needs for the upcoming season, we aimed to add a forward with MLS experience who can influence matches in various ways and help to provide more depth and competition within the squad.
“We believe that Tom’s speed, mentality, and knowledge of the league will be very beneficial to the team, and we look forward to seeing his contributions on the field,” Heitz added.
The 28-year-old had spent his entire career to date with the Red Bulls, totaling 17 goals and two assists across 128 league appearances. Barlow’s arrival in Chicago gives head coach Frank Klopas an added piece to call on next season.
Xherdan Shaqiri, Kacper Przybylko, and Brian Gutierrez headline the Fire attack heading into 2024. Chicago failed to reach the MLS Cup Playoffs in 2023.

Atlanta United re-signs Quentin Westberg
Atlanta United looks to have their goalkeeping corps sealed for 2024.
Quentin Westberg was re-signed through the 2024 season by the Eastern Conference club on Monday. The 37-year-old made six starts for the Five Stripes last season while No. 1 goalkeeper Brad Guzan was injured.
“Quentin is an experienced goalkeeper and we are pleased to re-sign him for the 2024 season,” Atlanta United VP and technical director Carlos Bocanegra said in a release. “He is a good role model for our club, and with his experience in MLS and Europe, he will continue to add competition to our goalkeeping group.”
Westberg moved to Toronto FC in 2019 after previously spending a decade in his native France. The Frenchman made 73 league appearances for TFC during his time there, logging 10 clean sheets.
He lifted a Canadian Championship with TFC in 2020.
Guzan and Josh Cohen will likely jostle for the No. 1 job this season while Westberg is in the mix for the back-up role.
FC Dallas signs homegrown forward Malik Henry-Scott
FC Dallas’ commitment to homegrown players remained very much clear on Monday.
Malik Henry-Scott was signed through the 2024 MLS season with options for 2025-27, the Western Conference club announced. The 22-year-old spent the last four seasons at the University of Tulsa, registering 17 goals and seven assists in 48 appearances.
Henry-Scott initially joined the FC Dallas youth system at nine-years-old where he rose through the academy ranks, scoring 25 goals.
He joins his brother Tarik Scott on the roster heading into 2024.
FC Dallas was eliminated in the second round of the MLS Cup Playoffs in 2023.
