MLS Ticker: LAFC signs Lloris, Nashville SC acquires Boyd, and more

MLS Ticker: LAFC signs Lloris, Nashville SC acquires Boyd, and more

LAFC has a former FIFA World Cup winner set to man the posts this season.

Hugo Lloris has signed with the reigning Western Conference champions on a one-year deal through 2024, the club announced. Lloris’ contract also includes two option years for 2025 and 2026.

Lloris, 37, joins LAFC after a sparkling 19-year career at the top levels of Europe, starring for Tottenham, Lyon, and Nice. The French international also appeared in 101 matches between the UEFA Champions and Europa League tournaments.

Lloris has appeared in a record 145 matches for France, registering 68 shutouts. He led Les Bleus to back-to-back FIFA World Cup Finals in 2018 and 2022. He holds the all-time record for most appearances by a goalkeeper in FIFA World Cup history (20 appearances).

LAFC reached MLS Cup in 2023 before falling to the Columbus Crew.

Here is a closer look at all of the recent MLS News:

Nashville SC acquires Tyler Boyd in trade with Galaxy

Nashville SC bolstered its attacking options in the form of veteran Tyler Boyd.

Boyd was acquired in a trade with the LA Galaxy on Saturday, in exchange for $150,000 in General Allocation Money ($75,000 in 2024, 2025). The Galaxy may receive up to $625,000 in conditional GAM per season, if Boyd meets certain performance metrics.

In his inaugural MLS season, Boyd recorded eight goals and five assists in 39 appearances across all competitions.

“Tyler is an outstanding attacking player who has proven the ability to create and finish scoring chances in MLS, abroad, and with the U.S. Men’s National Team. He is a great fit on and off the field, and we are excited to add him to our group,” General Manager Mike Jacobs said.

Prior to joining MLS, the 29-year-old played in over 275 matches registering 54 goals and 28 assists across the top divisions in New Zealand, Portugal, and Turkey.

Nashville SC possesses one of the league’s top playmakers in Hany Mukhtar and now has Boyd in the mix.

Sporting KC’s Kinda departs club for Israel

Gadi Kinda has departed Sporting KC, ending a four-year stay in MLS.

Kinda, a native of Israel, has joined Israeli Premier League side Maccabi Haifa on a permanent deal. The 29-year-old spent the last four seasons with SKC, totaling 72 league appearances, 15 goals and 19 assists.

SKC offered Kinda a bona-fide offer after his contract expired at season’s end, but the midfielder has decided to move back to Europe.

He missed most of the 2022 campaign due to a long-term knee injury. Kinda returned in 2023, totaling four goals and seven assists in league play.

SKC enjoyed a positive 2023 season before suffering playoff elimination in the West semifinals.
