Player Apologizes Following Controversial Mocking Incident
On November 28, 2025, a player from the Go Ahead Eagles publicly apologized and was fined for making fun of Angelo Stiller’s appearance during a match against Stuttgart.
Victor Edvardsen, the player in question, faced disciplinary action from his club after a heated exchange occurred with Stiller on the field. The incident led to tensions rising between both teams.
Edvardsen expressed regret for his actions the following day. “I want to apologize for my behavior yesterday,” he stated. “In the heat of the moment, things were said that have no place in football.” He also mentioned that he visited Stuttgart’s locker room post-match to personally convey his apologies. “As a role model, I need to act appropriately,” he added.
The Dutch club imposed a fine of €500 ($580, £438) on Edvardsen, which will be directed to the club’s social causes.
In the match itself, Stuttgart secured a convincing 4-0 victory over Go Ahead Eagles in the Europa League.
Stiller, a 24-year-old midfielder, is one of seven players being considered by Manchester United as they look to strengthen their midfield options.
Stiller, who progressed through the youth system at Bayern Munich, has gained recognition at Hoffenheim prior to his transfer to Stuttgart. He has also made five appearances for the German national team.
