Monterrey is currently in discussions to prolong the contract of Sergio Ramos, which is set to expire at the end of this year. The experienced Spanish defender joined the Liga MX team in February and has registered two goals in 15 appearances in the league.
In response to inquiries about the potential contract extension for Ramos, who serves as the team’s captain, Monterrey president José Antonio Noriega stated, “Yes, of course, there are talks, that’s normal.” He added, “I wouldn’t want to go into details because it distracts us from what’s most important right now which is how the team is going to be, how to face a difficult rival like América.”
The team is preparing for their Apertura quarterfinal first leg against América, scheduled for November 26.
As Ramos approaches his 40th birthday on March 30, 2026, he has expressed his desire to remain with Monterrey. “It’s true that my contract ends in December, but I hope we stay here because we are very happy and comfortable,” he commented last month.
“Mexico is a country that treats me wonderfully, and Rayados is a club with a very interesting project,” he added.
A 2010 World Cup champion and two-time UEFA Euro winner with Spain, Ramos enjoyed a prolific 16-year career at Real Madrid, where he claimed four Champions League titles and five LaLiga championships before departing as a free agent in 2021.
