Moyes praises Ten Hag’s impressive work at Manchester United – Latest news and transfer updates

Erik ten Hag opens up on his Manchester United future after 3-0 defeat to Tottenham Hotspur - Man United News And Transfer News

Former Manchester United manager David Moyes says he thinks current manager Erik ten Hag is doing a “brilliant job”.

Speaking to BBC Sport, Moyes leapt to the defence of the Dutchman, whose future hangs in the balance after a poor start to the season.

“I think he’s doing a brilliant job,” Moyes said. “I think he’s shown brilliant resistance in the position he’s in.

“I think he should be credited for how well he’s conducted himself.

“I don’t see him ducking any questions or media interviews with the people put before him. I think you have to give him great credit for that.

“It’s a job that’s going to attract immense pressure, immense people talking.

“So I have to say, I think he’s doing a brilliant job.”

Moyes himself was the first United manager to be sacked in 27 years, when the club relieved him of his duties in April 2014.

The previous manager to have faced the axe was Ron Atkinson in November 1986.

Moyes has repeatedly complained his own sacking from United had been handled badly after only 10 months in the hotseat.

His bizarre claims that Ten Hag is doing “brilliantly” seems more to do with how he would like to be perceived himself, having maintained his dignity under pressure, as Ten Hag has so far done.

However, Moyes’ comments speak to one of the reasons he may have been sacked in the first place, viewing personal conduct as the measure of how well a manager is doing, rather than how well the team is playing and what results are being obtained.
