Multiple Position Groups Get Depth in Practice Squad Additions

Multiple Position Groups Get Depth in Practice Squad Additions

The Dallas Cowboys made multiple roster moves on Thursday as they set their sights on the postseason.

Dallas Cowboys Week 18 Roster Moves

The team signed four new members to the practice squad, which included:

  • OT La’el Collins
  • LB Damien Wilson
  • WR Racey McMath
  • RB SaRodorick Thompson

Adding more depth to the running back was a timely move as well, especially since Malik Davis has run out of practice squad elevations for the season.

However, both Collins and Wilson have a history with the Cowboys and can add much-needed depth to their respective rooms.

OT La’el Collins

Collins was with the team from 2015 to 2022 and was the team’s starting left guard for a decent amount during that time.

He was seen at practice on Thursday, returning to the field in a No. 72 jersey since Chuma Edoga now wears his former No. 71.

His addition to the practice squad comes at an ideal time, as Tyler Smith is dealing with a torn plantar fascia.

Collins can also give the team position flexibility as he has played both guard and tackle in case an injury occurs and he needs to step in at any point.

LB Damien Wilson

As for Wilson, he was a fourth-round draft pick for the Cowboys in the 2015 NFL Draft.

He signed a four-year deal with the Cowboys and eventually went to the Chiefs in 2019. Since then, he has always been with the Jaguars and Panthers.

He adds some much-needed depth to a thin linebacker room without Leighton Vander Esch and DeMarvion Overshown this season.

Wilson’s addition to a young room made of Markquese Bell and Damone Clark will only strengthen the linebacker room.

On Thursday, he was seen at practice wearing the No. 45, although his original number was No. 57 in 2015.

Who Was Released From the Cowboys?

For the Cowboys to make room on the roster for the four new additions to the practice squad, they released the following players:

  • WR Martavis Bryant
  • WR Tyron Billy-Johnson
  • G Adam Pankey
  • DT Willington Previlon

None of the players released had started any games for the team this season.
