Murray Outplayed Already In Second Round Of Dubai Championships

Murray Outplayed Already In Second Round Of Dubai Championships

After scoring a huge comeback win in the previous round of the 2024 Dubai Championships, Andy Murray failed to do the same in the second round.

Murray was two points away from losing in his previous match at the Dubai Championships, but he won the match in three sets. It was a hugely important win for the Brit, who didn’t play that great initially but found a decent level as the match went on.

Winning that match earned him a chance to take on Ugo Humbert. As expected, the French player proved quite a tough matchup for the Brit as he really cruised in this match.

Humbert has been playing at a pretty high level for a while, and for the most part, Murray was no match for the French player. The former world no. 1 tried to bait Humbert into many errors because the French player does tend to play very aggressive tennis.

It didn’t work out as the opening set ended 6-2 for Humbert, who totaled 13 winners along the way. That was more than Murray had, while the number of unforced errors was the same.

The second set was very similar, though Humbert wasn’t as aggressive as in the previous set. He allowed Murray to kind of take over that part of the game, but it didn’t work out as the Brit missed more than he hit.

He also didn’t serve that well, which directly contributed to his loss. He was like a fish out of water on his second serve and just struggled overall against a player who is currently both better than him but also younger and, therefore, quicker.

He spent much of the second set complaining to himself as he so often does when things go badly. The final score was 6-2, 6-4 for Humbert.

“I don’t have a clue what I’m doing. Awful feeling, awful feeling on a tennis court. Horrific.”
