Murray Reaches Third Round For First Time In Eight Months With Superb Win At Miami Open

Murray Reaches Third Round For First Time In Eight Months With Superb Win At Miami Open

Andy Murray is playing good tennis this week at the 2024 Miami Open, booking the third round after a win over Tomas Martin Etcheverry.

The Brit took a long time to win his first win this year, but once things started to roll, he won matches. It doesn’t look like his best days, but it certainly looks competitive enough, at least this week at the ATP Masters 1000 tournament in Miami.

He had a decent showing in Indian Wells as well but ran into Andrey Rublev early. The draw was a bit more kind this time around because after beating Matteo Berrettini in the first round, he got Etcheverry in the second round.

The Argentine is predominantly a clay player but can also do well on hard courts. He has a strong serve and a lot of power, which fits great for the fast courts. The match itself was similar to Murray’s previous.

He served well on occasion again, something that was crucial against Berrettini. This time, it certainly contributed to the win, as he allowed very few chances for his opponent.

He also saved all break points he faced, which was crucial. The opening set went to a tie-break, which Murray played beautifully. He won all 7 points played, finishing it off 7-0.

The second set started well for him as well, but this time around, he was able to break his opponent before the tie-break. Etcheverry gave his all and had a break chance but never broke his opponent.

The problem for the Argentine was largely misfiring. He has a good baseline game, but he missed far too much in this match. Murray, on the other hand, was rather precise and could lean on his serve to power him through.

Murray was just the better player in this match, and the final score proved that as the scoreboard showed 7-6(0), 6-3. Up next is Tomas Machac, who stunned the fifth-seeded Andrey Rublev.
