Nadal Among French Open Favourites Despite Recent Injury Struggles Says Uncle Toni

Nadal Among French Open Favourites Despite Recent Injury Struggles Says Uncle Toni

Rafael Nadal will be one of the favourites to win the Roland Garros despite his injury struggles according to his uncle, Toni Nadal.

The Spaniard is one of the greatest tennis players of all-time, especially when it comes to clay courts, where we haven’t seen a better player, ever. His dominance is unmatched, so much, that he’s favoured even when injured.

Currently, Nadal is injured. He withdrew from the Monte-Carlo Masters, and that put his French Open chances into doubt, but one person that isn’t worried is his former coach and uncle, Toni Nadal.

The 63-year-old spoke to EFE, as per Cadena SER, assessing Nadal’s chances at the Roland Garros. Unsurprisingly, Toni said that previously, his nephew was always the top favourite in Paris, but this time around, he would be part of a group of multiple favourites.

“If he is well and manages to recover. Before, when Rafael participated in Paris, there was a clear favorite. Now there are several, and I trust that Rafael is within that group.”

Nadal is still trying to come back and restart his career, which shows his incredible determination and perseverance. In the same interview, Toni was also asked about what brought his nephew so much success in his tennis career.

According to the coach, who now works with Felix Auger-Aliassime, it’s all because of his work ethic, but also mental strength to overcome all the injuries that were thrown at him throughout his career.

“Very outstanding natural conditions, and constant work. Never stopping believing in himself was also essential, and being willing to overcome the adversities that the future brought him.”

After withdrawing from the Monte-Carlo Masters, the Spanish player will focus at the Barcelona Open and the Madrid Open, tournaments he plays regularly, before shifting his focus to the Roland Garros.
