There is a lot of chatter about Rafael Nadal‘s impending comeback, with some suggestions it might be a farewell tour.
Rafael Nadal recently finally confirmed that he’s coming back to tennis. It’s only about a month away as the Spaniard will make his comeback at the Brisbane International, but we don’t know what the comeback will look like.
In a recent interview, Nadal admitted that recovering to a high level will be very tough because he’s missed such a long time. It’s possible, but it will be very hard; however, working hard has been in the DNA of the Spaniard for a very long time.
Some have suggested that it won’t be enough, as the comeback will likely look more like a farewell tour than anything else. Former player Paolo Bertolucci doesn’t think that’s the case.
In his mind, a farewell tour won’t happen due to the way Nadal operates. He’s there to compete and not to play for the sake of just playing.
I’m sure, however, that he will still have a great desire to compete and overcome his opponents: someone like him doesn’t come back to do the farewell tour. The tournaments will not be catwalks to collect the last applause and say goodbye to his many fans,” he told.
While he might not be as competitive as his peak, nobody will doubt his ability to win Roland Garros. Like many, Bertolucci believes that everything he does is to peak at Roland Garros in May.
There is a lot of curiosity in seeing him back on the court. Accustomed as he was to breaking so many records, perhaps he wants to push the boundaries of his legend further.
He chose Australia to start again, but I believe that everything is part of the design of a very targeted program through specific tests that have validated this decision and which should bring him in good condition for the clay tournaments from May to June.
