Nadal Presents Unique Challenge Says Medvedev

Nadal Presents Unique Challenge Says Medvedev

Rafael Nadal is returning to tennis shortly, and Daniil Medvedev is excited about potentially facing the Spaniard.

There is a lot of history between Medvedev and Nadal because they contested a pretty iconic Australian Open final where Medvedev was on the verge of winning. Nadal somehow pulled away the comeback to become the leading man in Grand Slams at that moment, which was legendary.

Obviously, Novak Djokovic overtook him, but you can’t really deny the legacy of Nadal. For Medvedev, they are two sides of the same coin. Legendary players who present a unique set of challenges due to their tremendous talent and extensive experience.

It’s kind of the same like with Novak; it’s just that all the seasons that he played he wins a lot of matches and doesn’t lose many. It’s very tough to beat him. Actually with Rafa maybe I even had even less success than with Novak in a way.

Nadal can certainly be a tricky player to beat, and that Australian Open final is certainly one that Medvedev won’t forget that easily. He basically had the match won, but Nadal kept fighting and ultimately wore down Medvedev enough to turn around the match.

Still, the Spaniard’s come back excites Medvedev because it’s a good challenge for the Russian.

But we had some tight matches where I felt like I could win and maybe he got the edge in the end. So for me it’s going to be a great challenge if I have to face him. I don’t know at the moment his shape, no one knows, and how he’s going to handle. But from what I saw, he seems to be doing good and that’s great for tennis.

It will happen shortly at Brisbane International, so let’s see what happens. Medvedev won’t be able to face him until Melbourne, though.
