Rafael Nadal will move up over 100 spots on Monday when the ATP publishes new rankings, but he’s still far from the Top 100.
The Spaniard returned to tennis this week at the Barcelona Open, playing two matches in total. His first one was a comfortable win over Flavio Cobolli, but he was beaten in the second round by a very solid Alex de Minaur.
The 22-time major winner is set for a pretty big jump due to his Barcelona efforts. 25 points he earned will be enough for him to jump over 132 spots on the ATP Rankings, as she’s set to debut as world number 512 in the world.
Obviously, that’s the first time that he will be ranked as world no. 512, as back in 2002, when he was breaking through as a young player, he went from 593rd place all the way to 489th.
After the significant move, Nadal will continue his comeback at the Madrid Open, where he arrived a few days ago and has been spotted practicing. Regardless of how his participation at the ATP Masters 1000 event goes, it’s unlikely that Nadal will earn enough points to be seeded at the Roland Garros.
He had to use his protected ranking to enter the tournament, which isn’t a huge problem, but it makes him vulnerable to facing the likes of Novak Djokovic in the first round. That tournament is the most important one for him, but he’d like to be ranked as high as possible because of the draw.
