Former world No. 1 Rafael Nadal has withdrawn from the 2024 BNP Paribas Open, citing that he is still not ready to compete at the highest level.
The Spaniard, who has only played one event this year, will head back to Spain in hopes of competing at the Rolex Monte Carlo Masters next month.
It is with great sadness that I have to withdraw from this amazing tournament at Indian Wells.
Everyone knows how much I love this place and how much I love to play here. That’s also one of the reasons why I came very early to the desert to practice and try to get ready. pic.twitter.com/gmvs5kfGO2— Rafa Nadal (@RafaelNadal) March 7, 2024
Nadal was set to play Milos Raonic from Canada in his first round match.
