Manchester United faced a tough challenge against Championship side Coventry City in the FA Cup semi-final, conceding three goals and almost losing in extra time before ultimately winning 4-2 on penalties.
Erik ten Hag’s substitutions allowed Coventry to make a comeback, turning a three-goal deficit in the 70th minute into an equalizer in normal time. The Dutch manager cited injuries to United’s midfield and defensive players as the reason for the lackluster performance.
Casemiro had to play as a centre-back due to multiple injuries in the team. In midfield, both Mason Mount and Sofyan Amrabat got injured during training sessions.
The decision to substitute Kobbie Mainoo with Christian Eriksen backfired as Eriksen’s lack of pace gave Coventry momentum. Amrabat, who was expected to be a natural replacement, has struggled during his loan spell with several costly errors.
Despite Amrabat’s underwhelming performance, Serie A champions Napoli are reportedly interested in signing him permanently. Other Premier League clubs like Fulham and Liverpool are also considering a deal for the midfielder.
Barcelona and Juventus have also expressed interest in Amrabat, leaving his future uncertain after a disappointing loan spell at United.
