Nasa Hataoka’s Disqualification at ShopRite LPGA Puts Her Olympic Spot in Jeopardy

Nasa Hataoka’s DQ at ShopRite LPGA could cost her spot in Olympics

Nasa Hataoka’s disqualification from the ShopRite LPGA Classic could have huge implications beyond just missing out on prize money and a potential title. It may also jeopardize her chances of competing in the Paris Olympics.

The incident occurred during the first round when Hataoka found herself in trouble on the par-5 ninth hole. After a prolonged search for her ball, she eventually took an unplayable lie with the help of a rules official.

However, it was later discovered that the search for her ball had exceeded the permitted three-minute time limit. This led to her disqualification after LPGA officials reviewed the footage.

The LPGA released a statement explaining the decision and the rule violations that occurred during the incident.

Following the disqualification, questions were raised about why a rules official did not intervene during the broadcast to correct the situation.

Jenny Shin, who was leading after the second round, expressed her thoughts on the matter on Twitter.

Hataoka will now have to focus on securing her spot in the Olympics at the upcoming KPMG Women’s PGA, as her position on the Japanese team is in jeopardy with Ayaka Furue close behind in the rankings.

With Yuka Saso’s recent rise in the rankings, Hataoka’s Olympic dreams are hanging in the balance.

Miyu Yamashita is currently ranked No. 25.
