Last week, NBA Commissioner Adam Silver addressed the press following his meeting with the league’s Board of Governors. During the meeting, Silver discussed several topics, including a new rule allowing referees to review complete plays on monitors, potential NBA expansions, and the Clippers’ new arena.

Silver commended the completion of the Intuit Dome in Los Angeles, which will serve as the team’s home for the upcoming NBA season. The arena recently hosted a Bruno Mars concert and will debut its first basketball game in a preseason matchup against the Mavericks on October 14.

“Steve Ballmer and his team have done a great job with the Intuit Dome, and we’re thrilled about it,” Silver mentioned. “They will kick off the season against the Phoenix Suns. I visited the building when it was nearly 80% completed.”

The commissioner highlighted the arena’s numerous bathrooms and cutting-edge technology, along with positive reviews from the inaugural concert held there.

“I’ve heard fantastic things about the concerts at the Intuit Dome and the innovative technology implemented by Steve. I also hear it boasts the most bathrooms in any arena, which will be beneficial as I age,” Silver added.

Furthermore, the Intuit Dome is being considered as a potential venue for basketball events during the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics, a decision that has already been finalized.

“I’m excited to witness basketball games and possibly the Olympics at the Intuit Dome. It has been confirmed as the venue for LA 2028,” Silver shared with enthusiasm.

The League Commissioner Addresses NBA Expansion Plans: ‘We Are Not Quite Ready’

Despite discussions about expanding the NBA to include more franchises in North America, Commissioner Adam Silver revealed that the league is not yet prepared to introduce new teams.

Silver explained that expansion was not a significant topic during the recent board of governors meeting, signaling that the issue may be revisited in the upcoming season.

“Expansion was not a focal point of our recent meeting, not due to lack of interest but because we have communicated that we are not quite prepared,” Silver stated during a press conference in Manhattan.

“We have informed our board that we intend to address expansion this season, although we are not fully ready at the moment. While there is interest in the process, specific decisions regarding markets or expansion have not been made yet,” he continued.
