The NBA has unveiled the state-of-the-art full video LED court, that will be used for NBA All-Star 2024 events taking place at Lucas Oil Stadium between 16-18 February.
For the first time ever, events including the All-Star Celebrity Game and Feb. 17’s Skills Challenge, 3-Point Contest and Challenge and Slam Dunk event, will take place on the immersive LED sports floor that includes: design and color changes, live replays and other video content, real-time game stats, location-based player tracking animations, interactive games for fans during timeouts, immersive animations following key plays and moments.
“It gives us a little bit more range in what we can do as far as interactive graphics, reactionary graphics that happen on the floor, changing the floor design, changing the colors, really reacting to the play that happens on the court,” said Carlton Myers, an NBA senior vice president overseeing live production and entertainment. “So, we feel really, really good about the capabilities of what this gives us, what this provides us. And we think it’s going to be really impactful, both in the building and watching on television.”
Myers says the NBA has been looking at LED courts for about eight years, but the technology wasn’t quite right, so they didn’t pursue.
“Now the technology is there, and we feel really comfortable with it,” Myers explained. “Now is the time to do it.”
The court was developed by the German company ASB GlassFloor and has been used in events by FIBA, the sport’s governing body.
FIBA used LED glass flooring during the U19 Women’s Basketball World Cup 2023.
No doubt it will be a very cool addition for those watching it live and the millions tuning in for All-Star weekend on TV around the globe.
