Nemanja Vidic states that Kobbie Mainoo reminds him of Luka Modric – Man United News And Transfer News

Manchester United’s 18 year old star, Kobbie Mainoo, once again reminded the footballing world exactly what he is capable of with a stunning strike in his side’s 2-2 draw with Liverpool yesterday afternoon.

The youngster has been a shining beacon of hope during a rather dark, challenging season for Red Devils across the world. He has dazzled since he came into the team at the end of November against Everton and has not looked back.

Mainoo has quickly made himself one of the first names on the team sheet and most people would accept he is the bona fide first choice midfielder in the squad.

His fine form saw him called up to the England senior squad, where he impressed against Brazil and especially Belgium.

In truth, Mainoo’s performances have been on the wane of late as he is clearly beginning to feel the consequences of playing so much football with so much responsibility in his first season in the first team.

However, the Stockport native put his names up in lights once again yesterday, as after some fine work with Alejandro Garnacho on the right, he collected Aaron Wan-Bissaka’s pass and calmly spun around and curled an absolutely beautiful effort into the top corner at the Stretford End to give his side the lead.

Naturally, the goal sparked wild celebrations within the stadium and numerous pundits once again waxed lyrical over the midfield man’s supreme talent.

Former United captain, Nemanja Vidic told Premier League Productions that, “Mainoo has been fantastic”.

“Especially his awareness. He reminds me sometimes of Modric”.

“He always feels who is behind him. You can see, he took the first touch, straight away moved to the side, then it was a great strike. He’s difficult to defend against”.

This is not the first time that the young man has been compared to a legendary midfielder as Vidic’s famous defensive partner from their United days, Rio Ferdinand, stated that Mainoo gave him “Seedorf vibes” after his stunning first Premier League goal against Wolves, earlier in the campaign.

United fans know that they must try to keep their young starlet’s feet on the ground and to not expect too much too early from him.

However, with each passing week, he adds something new to his game or creates a piece of sublime magic which makes that task increasingly more challenging to carry out.
