Never Count Djokovic Out: Recent Form Struggles Don’t Define Him

Former ATP player Ivan Ljubicic believes that Novak Djokovic is not ‘finished’ despite recent form struggles.

Djokovic’s recent performances have raised concerns as he hasn’t been playing at his usual high level, with only a marked improvement at the 2024 Monte-Carlo Masters.

Despite some declaring Djokovic as ‘finished,’ Ljubicic, who knows Djokovic well, disagrees and recently shared his thoughts with La Stampa regarding Djokovic’s current situation.

Ljubicic emphasized that Djokovic should not be underestimated and remains a formidable opponent when in top form, especially with crucial events like the Olympics in Paris on the horizon.

“There is Novak Djokovic and he should never be considered a finished tennis player. When he’s on the ball, and I’m sure he will be from now on, he really remains a very difficult opponent to beat. In my opinion, it matters a lot that the Olympics are in Paris.”

Ljubicic also suggested that Djokovic’s strategic break from the Tour is likely part of his preparation for upcoming major tournaments like Roland Garros and the Olympics, where he has significant titles at stake.

“It wouldn’t have been the same in Tokyo. Djokovic is focusing a lot on it because it’s the only thing he hasn’t won and it must be said that there are many reasons. I think they will have the same value as the 2012 Olympics at Wimbledon.”

With the Olympics being a key focus for Djokovic this year, along with Wimbledon, any evaluation of his performance should wait until after these pivotal events.
