The mystery surrounding the top defensive player’s benching for the opening series has finally been addressed, shedding light on the situation.
Recent reports from Philadelphia Inquirer’s Jeff McLane, citing NFL sources, reveal that Carter was late for a team-related commitment last week.
As a consequence, the 23-year-old defensive tackle was held out of the first defensive series, a decision that aligns with the team’s disciplinary approach.
The Eagles’ defensive strategy typically employs a “50 front” alignment, featuring Carter and Milton Williams alongside nose tackle Jordan Davis, with Josh Sweat and Bryce Huff as overhang players.
However, defensive coordinator Vic Fangio opted for a different approach against the Falcons, deploying a four-man front with Davis and Williams inside, flanked by Sweat and Huff on the edges.
