Things have been going well for the New York Yankees this season, as they currently sit atop the American League with a 52-27 record behind a dazzling combination of offensive firepower and stingy starting pitching.
The team has faced some adversity over the last week or so after losing six out of eight games, and now one of its stars will be hitting the injured list and creating a sizeable void in the middle of the order.
After exiting last night’s 8-3 victory early over the Atlanta Braves, designated hitter Giancarlo Stanton has been placed on the 10-day injured list with a left hamstring strain.
It’s a tough break for Stanton and the Yankees, as the slugger is off to one of his best starts in years with a .246 average, 18 home runs, and 45 RBIs.
This is the eighth time in the last six seasons that Stanton has landed on the IL, and the third time it has been due to a left hamstring strain after suffering the same injury in 2020 and 2023, with last season’s injury limiting him to just 101 games played.
Stanton showed up to Spring Training noticeably slimmer this season in an effort to put less pressure on his 34-year-old body, and the effort seemed to have paid off so far with him playing in 69 of the team’s first 79 games this season.
Manager Aaron Boone didn’t sound overly concerned after the game, so hopefully for Stanton and the Yankees, this isn’t as bad of a strain as the one he suffered last season.
