Newcastle reportedly considering surprise January move for out-of-form Manchester United player Antony – Latest Man United Transfer Updates

Joe Cole blames Antony for disappointing defeat at Brighton - Man United News And Transfer News

It was a hugely disappointing last season for Antony with the Brazilian netting only once in the Premier League and struggling for form on the pitch and mired in controversies off it.

Erik ten Hag initially tried to hand him regular chances in a bid to help him regain confidence but nothing worked out and following Amad Diallo’s explosive impact, the former Ajax star found himself on the bench most of the time.

And that has not changed in the new campaign and INEOS were eager to move him on in the summer despite the manager still believing in his player.

The club blocked a deadline day exit but with plenty of options out wide at the manager’s disposal, the 24-year-old is unlikely to earn too many chances unless he drastically improves.

INEOS want Antony out

Most fans have already given up hope and feel Ten Hag made a major blunder by bringing the Brazil international to the club. United are likely to incur a massive loss on their initial investment of £86 million.

Interestingly, United might have the chance to offload the winger this January with Newcastle weighing up a surprise bid as they eye an exciting wing addition.

Incidentally, the Magpies’ first preference would be to land former United star Anthony Elanga, but should they miss out on the Swede, Antony is their next choice.

United are open to an exit should the team from St James’ Park cough up £40 million with Eddie Howe an admirer of Antony’s talents as per Caughtoffside.

“CaughtOffside sources have advance that Eddie Howe is considering a move for Manchester United’s Brazilian winger Antony, if their pursuit of Anthony Elanga falls through.

Newcastle open to January move

“Sources indicate that Man United are now open to selling a player that they paid £86m for (Goal), for a fee in the region of £40m.

“Howe is said to highly appreciate Antony’s skills and believes he would be a valuable addition to the squad. Furthermore, the player himself is reportedly keen on the potential move to the North East giants.”

Ten Hag wanted a left-footed winger and thus opted to sign Antony in his first summer, and the former Sao Paulo man netted important goals in games against Arsenal, and Barcelona.

But his lack of pace and penchant for overdoing things has not won him too many fans and last season’s nightmare seems to have ended any chances of making it big at Old Trafford.
