Newcastle United Unlikely to Reacquire Elliot Anderson
Newcastle United appears to be steering clear of a reunion with midfielder Elliot Anderson, currently playing for Nottingham Forest. Despite Anderson’s remarkable development following his departure from St James’ Park, the Magpies are not expected to pursue him in the near future.
David Ornstein shared insights on NBC Sports, indicating that Newcastle is not seen as a contender among other top Premier League and European teams looking to sign the England international. Although Anderson’s growth has not gone unnoticed, Newcastle’s focus seems directed elsewhere as they seek to maintain a balance between ambition and financial prudence.
The Feasibility of Signing Elliot Anderson
Ornstein remarked:
“Arsenal is practically the only team fully stocked in that midfield role, so I don’t anticipate them making a move for him. Even though Newcastle would love to have him back, his transfer might be financially out of reach for them.
“Much will hinge on the various managerial situations at these clubs, and players like Anderson want clarity regarding that. The next six months are crucial for him, although the upcoming World Cup probably won’t influence his eventual destination.”
Elliot Anderson came up through Newcastle’s youth ranks before transferring to Nottingham Forest in the summer of 2024 for a fee estimated around £35 million. Prior to his departure, he made 55 appearances for the Magpies.
