The Tampa Bay Buccaneers have had one of the league’s best wide receiver corps for quite some time due to the consistent excellence of Mike Evans and Chris Godwin, who have both put up big numbers regardless of who is under center for years and years.
In this year’s NFL Draft, the team added to that WR corps and picked up another wideout who has already impressed one analyst quite a bit.
Greg Cosell appeared on The Ross Tucker Podcast and said “I love Jalen McMillan, the kid they got out of Washington,” while adding that he thinks there is a good chance he quickly emerges as the WR3 in Tampa.
The Bucs have been in need of a good third receiver for a couple of years ever since Antonio Brown left the team, and McMillan already has experience playing as a WR3 alongside two great receivers from his experience at Washington when he lined up next to Rome Odunze and Ja’Lynn Polk.
McMillan put up 45 catches for 559 yards and five touchdowns last season in just seven games, which was enough for the Bucs to select him with the 92nd overall pick.
He is 6’1″ and 192 pounds and ran a 4.47 40-yard dash at the NFL Combine.
McMillan’s main competition for the third receiver spot will be from Trey Palmer, who put up 39 catches for 385 yards last season as a 6th-round rookie.
McMillan has a golden opportunity to earn snaps and targets immediately, and we’ll see if he can quickly prove to be a reliable target for Baker Mayfield.
