The best wide receiver on the field for the Buffalo Bills wore the captain patch and ended with four catches, 130 yards, one touchdown, and averaged an astronomical 32.5 yards per catch.
It wasn’t lead wideout Stefon Diggs, though. It was fellow wideout captain Gabe Davis who wound up shredding the Los Angeles Chargers in the 24-22 Saturday night win at SoFi Stadium.
Davis’ performance sparked multiple reactions throughout the night, including from those mentioning the veteran wide receiver’s once-a-month appearances.
Gabe Davis Labeled a Once-a-Month Contributor
While Davis is praised on the Bills for his locker room leadership in earning the “C” patch, he rarely delivers a night like the one from Saturday.
Davis entered the crystallized home of the Chargers and Rams with only two 100-yard games and just 39 catches in tow. His last 100-yard outing was nearly one month ago against the Philadelphia Eagles, which was a six-catch, 105-yard outing in the overtime loss.
But this time, Josh Allen showed enough trust in Davis to ignite the Bills’ offense.
That’s Mr. Gabe Davis to you‼️

Davis, though, became the recipient of jokes online for showing up every once in a while, starting with the NFL Memes account on X (formerly known as Twitter), who gave him the Randy Moss label … for monthly appearances.

One fan then gave this unique description to illustrate Davis’ impact:
“Gabe Davis is the friend that never responds to your texts, but bails you out of jail at 3 a.m.”

Another fan account compared Davis to WWE legend “The Undertaker” with this gif. The wrestler popularized the “resurrection” move in the ring.
There was one more strong description for Davis. But this time, it was from NBC Sports color commentator Cris Collinsworth, who compared him to one renowned San Francisco 49ers star.
“Gabe Davis has a little Deebo Samuel in him,” Collinsworth was heard saying during the broadcast.
Lastly, Hip Hop superstar and Buffalo native Benny the Butcher gave Davis a high grade while also predicting the outcome of the Bills’ next game.

But again, Saturday marked a rare dominating night for a team that already has the prized All-Pro Diggs. And for Davis, his huge night ended a two-game streak of not catching a single pass.
How Did Josh Allen and Davis React To Big Night?
Allen said that the Davis 57-yard strike was a play the two have practiced before.
He also saw Davis’ night as a performance he has been used to before. Yet, he praised his patience.
“He was just doing his job,” Allen told reporters postgame.
“Last two games for him, sometimes it didn’t pan out for him to get him the ball. Whether if it was coverage or it was concept. But the mental toughness on that kid to not get down and not let that beat him down is very impressive. He works hard, he doesn’t complain, opportunity finds him.”
Davis, meanwhile, wound up being humble about the blockbuster evening that saw him post a new season-high in yards. He instead focused more on his team closing out the narrow win.
“You want to be able to win those close games,” Davis told reporters in the locker room. “And that’s one of our big goals this year — win when it’s tight. And I feel like it turns us up a little bit more. You want to see some resiliency from this team, and you saw it tonight.”
