Even without Kirk Cousins under center, the Minnesota Vikings have remained in the hunt for an NFL playoff spot.

The Vikings nearly pulled off an upset in Week 16 against their NFC North rivals the Detroit Lions, though they fell short in the second half.

It wasn’t for a lack of effort as Minnesota was able to keep pace with Detroit for most of the afternoon, largely in part to Justin Jefferson who remains one of the best wideouts in the league.

Backup quarterback Nick Mullens has been careless with some of his touchdown passes this season, though he and Jefferson connected for a highlight-reel grab near the end of the first half against the Lions that had fans buzzing.

Jefferson was able to track the ball over the defender and come down with the grab, prompting a celebration.

However, it looks like the league is fining Jefferson for his touchdown dance via Tom Pelissero of NFL Network.

The NFL fined Vikings WR Justin Jefferson $13,659 for unsportsmanlike conduct after his TD last week. It’s apparently for Jefferson making a brief, gun-like signal at the camera here, violating Rule 12, Section 3, Article 1(d) with a “violent gesture,” Pelissero tweeted.

In the clip, Jefferson can be seen doing his trademark griddy, but also seems to make a gun with his fingers.

However, this isn’t actually a gun and rather a shoutout to his home state of Louisiana where the gesture is popular.

Recently, Memphis Grizzlies star Ja Morant drew criticism for the same celebration though both the NBA and NFL appear to be cracking down on anything that could be misinterpreted as a firearm.
