Tashaun Gipson is a free agent safety who has run into trouble with the NFL and will miss the start of the 2024 regular season.
Gipson has had stellar moments in his professional career that began with being signed by Cleveland as an undrafted free agent in 2012.
The former Wyoming standout played four seasons with the Browns and enjoyed breakout performances in 2013 and 2014.
He intercepted 11 passes over the two seasons and was selected to the Pro Bowl after the 2014 campaign.
NFL insider Adam Schefter revealed that the league suspended the free agent safety for six games.
ESPN reported Schefter was told by sources that the suspension was for violating the league’s performance-enhancing substances policy.
Gipson was a 49er for the past two seasons.

After his four years with the Browns, Gipson spent three years in the Jacksonville secondary, a single season in Houston, then two in Chicago and San Francisco, respectively.
While Gipson is certainly an older defender who is not playing at the Pro Bowl level he previously enjoyed, he still had a productive 2023 campaign with the NFC champion 49ers.
Originally signed as a depth player, he had 60 tackles, an interception and a sack in 16 regular season games with the team.
Gipson was set to enter 2024 with 33 career interceptions, but those aspirations are now on hold.
He was considered one of the top players still on the market as training camps approached, but the suspension means he would not be available to a new employer until over a third of the season has been played.
