Nick Dunlap surprised many by taking the clubhouse lead at the Memorial on Thursday with a 2-under 70 at Muirfield Village Golf Club.
Despite being only 20 years old and new to Muirfield Village, Dunlap has a history of golfing success as the first amateur to win a PGA Tour event since Phil Mickelson in 1991 and the U.S. Amateur champion who also won the U.S. Junior Amateur title. He turned pro after his victory at the American Express earlier this year.
Reflecting on his journey, Dunlap expressed gratitude for the opportunities on the tour and his enjoyment of playing at courses like Muirfield Village.

Dunlap’s experience at Muirfield Village showcased the challenges of the course as he navigated through early struggles on the front nine and then surged with five birdies on the back nine.
Reflecting on his performance, Dunlap acknowledged the difficulty of the course and the precision required in each shot, noting the fine margins of error involved.
